Frequently Asked Questions
Why are there two weddings?
We’re celebrating twice! 🎉
The main wedding will take place in Chiang Mai, Thailand: a Western-style celebration with an outdoor ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner reception. The RSVP form will be for this event.
We’re also having a traditional Vietnamese wedding in Pakse, Laos, which includes a morning tea ceremony and brunch, followed by a dinner reception. If you're interested in joining us in Laos, let us know — we'd love to have you!
How do I get to Chiang Mai?
Most international travelers will first land in Bangkok (BKK). If you book a separate flight to Chiang Mai, keep in mind that Bangkok has two airports:
-
Suvarnabhumi (BKK) – international and larger
-
Don Mueang (DMK) – mostly budget airlines
Make sure you leave enough time to transfer if switching airports. ✈️
Some routes allow you to bypass Bangkok and fly directly into Chiang Mai from other major Asian hubs.
.
Planning a multi-country trip? Consider booking multi-city flights. For example:
-
JFK → BKK and TPE → JFK
From there, you can book regional flights separately. Southeast Asia has many affordable and reliable carriers.
Where should I stay in Chiang Mai?
Our venue, Heritage House & Garden, is located in the lush hills southwest of the Old City. We'll provide shuttle service from select hotels to and from the venue.
In the city, we recommend:
-
Glory Wabi Sabi
-
Coucou Hotel
-
Sanae Old Town Hotel
If you prefer the mountains near the venue, here are some great spots:
-
Veranda High Resort
-
Treescape Resort
-
Royal Train Resort
.
Additional Hotels:
-
Foresta Villa
-
Flora Creek Resort
-
Ratchapruek Lanna Boutique
-
Chandra Residence
-
R1 Resort Rajapruek Chiang Mai
We’ll do our best to group guests at the same hotels to make things easier for pickups, shuttles, and spontaneous hangouts.
How do I get to Pakse?
There are no direct flights from Chiang Mai to Pakse, but there are a few ways to get there:
-
Fly to Luang Prabang, spend a night or two (highly recommended: a UNESCO World Heritage site!), then fly to Pakse.
-
Fly through Bangkok or Vientiane, then connect to Pakse.
It might take a bit of planning, but we promise Laos will be worth it.
Are children allowed at the wedding?
We love your kids. Truly. Please take into careful considerations: our venue includes open water features, ravines, open pools, steep hills, and other potential toddler traps. For everyone's peace of mind, including ours, we ask that children be supervised at all times.
If you plan to bring little ones, we will arrange a nanny or child care to ensure general safety but we also ask you to keep an eye on your children at all times. Let us know in advance and we’ll help make it work!
What is the dress code for each wedding?
Chiang Mai Wedding:
Black Tie Optional meets enchanted garden. Dress to impress, but feel comfortable — gowns, tuxedos, suits, jumpsuits, flowy dresses, and anything you'd wear to a stylish outdoor soirée. The ceremony and reception are outdoors, so heels that won’t sink and fabrics that breathe are your friends.
Pakse Wedding:
For the morning tea ceremony, wear something traditional or semi-formal and respectful (Ao Dai, Lao sinh, or classic dress/suit). For the evening reception, cocktail attire is perfect — festive, polished, and ready to party!
Will there be transportation provided?
Yes! In Chiang Mai, we'll be providing shuttles to and from the venue from select hotels in the Old City and nearby mountain resorts. Once everyone RSVP’s and we know where people are staying, we’ll coordinate routes.
In Pakse, we’ll help guide you to the wedding events — things are closer together, and we’ll keep you posted with exact meeting points or transport arrangements closer to the date.
Do I need a visa for Thailand or Laos?
Thailand:
No Visa needed, but you need a "Thailand Digital Arrival Card". It is an online process that can be completed 3 days before arriving to Thailand:
https://tdac.immigration.go.th/arrival-card/#/home
Laos:
You will need a visa to enter Laos. You can apply for an eVisa online in advance or get a visa on arrival at select entry points. We’ll link the most up-to-date info on the site before the wedding.
What's the weather like that time of year?
Chiang Mai (late Jan):
Cool, dry, and sunny! Highs in the 80s°F (26–30°C), lows in the 60s°F (15–20°C). Bring layers for evenings — and sunscreen for daytime!
Pakse (early Feb):
Warm and humid, but still dry season — highs in the upper 80s°F (29–32°C). Lightweight clothes are your best friend.
Will there be vegetarian/ vegan/gluten-free options?
While the menu at both weddings will primarily feature non-vegetarian dishes and gluten-containing items, we will make sure there are a few vegetable-forward and gluten-free options available for our guests with dietary needs.
If you’re vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free, please let us know on the RSVP so we can plan accordingly and ensure there’s something tasty for you too!
How long should I stay in Chiang Mai or Pakse?
Chiang Mai:
We recommend at least 4–5 days if you want to soak in the food, temples, markets, and maybe a day trip to the mountains. Our wedding spans Jan 26–29, so come a little early or stay after to explore!
Pakse:
2–3 days is a great amount for the wedding and surrounding activities. If you have extra time, nearby Champasak and the 4000 Islands are worth the trip.
Are there group activities or excursions planned?
Yes! We’re planning a few optional excursions in Chiang Mai — think cooking classes, market walks, or elephant sanctuary visits (the ethical kind, promise!). We'll update you with the final options closer to the wedding.
In Pakse, we’ll have a lighter schedule but may organize a brunch or waterfall outing depending on group size.
Any travel recommendations or tour guides?
We’re putting together a travel guide section with flight tips, local guides, and our favorite things to do in Chiang Mai and Pakse. If you're planning something specific we’re happy to help brainstorm!
